Five Fitchburg ZIP Areas
Five postal areas list Fitchburg as an accepted locality in the Wisconsin Department of Health Services table derived from USPS data. Their preferred cities are Madison, Oregon, or Verona. That means a valid Fitchburg parcel may not display “Fitchburg” as its primary mailing city, and the same ZIP can serve land outside the city. The Fitchburg ZIP code directory begins with postal coverage, then checks municipal identity separately.
| ZIP Code | Areas Covered | Post Office | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 53575 | Oregon delivery area and some Fitchburg addresses | Oregon | Fitchburg is an accepted locality |
| 53593 | Verona delivery area and southwestern Fitchburg edges | Verona | Rural border parcels may use Verona |
| 53711 | Madison south and southwest, plus Fitchburg | Madison | A primary Fitchburg postal association shared with Madison |
| 53713 | Madison, Monona, and Fitchburg delivery areas | Madison | Accepted locality is not a city-limit map |
| 53719 | Madison west and southwest, plus Fitchburg | Madison | Parts of Madison use it too |
No official source found a Fitchburg-specific ZIP split or realignment year. Current delivery boundaries should therefore come from a full-address USPS query, not from an old list or a guessed neighborhood line. A ZIP identifies a mail route area. It does not confirm that an address lies within Fitchburg or that a named person occupies it.
Fitchburg Postal Names Differ
Madison is the preferred city for 53711, 53713, and 53719. Oregon is preferred for 53575, and Verona is preferred for 53593. Fitchburg remains an accepted secondary locality in each. Postal naming follows delivery operations rather than city government, so “Madison” on an envelope does not settle municipal jurisdiction.
The distinction is especially useful in records work. City permits and local elections follow the government boundary. AccessDane identifies the parcel municipality. Deeds follow the PIN and legal description. USPS determines the deliverable postal form. When those labels disagree, keep each one with its own record instead of replacing all of them with the ZIP's preferred city.
A 2022 Fitchburg budget document offers a local example. A newspaper distribution list included routes in 53711, 53713, and 53719 while excluding 53575 and 53593. That was a service decision, not a statement that the excluded ZIP areas were outside Fitchburg.
Verify Fitchburg ZIP Addresses
The USPS ZIP Code Lookup has three useful modes. Address mode requires a street address, city, and state, with optional company, apartment or suite, and ZIP fields. City-and-state mode returns postal areas tied to that city text. ZIP mode reverses one number to its accepted cities or localities.
| USPS mode | Required entry | Best use |
|---|---|---|
| By Address | Street, city, state | Confirm the deliverable ZIP and standardized address |
| By City and State | City, state | See ZIP associations for the Fitchburg locality name |
| Cities by ZIP | Five-digit ZIP | Compare preferred and accepted postal names |
The lookup result confirms postal formatting, not a person or company at the address. Pair it with a county parcel source when municipal location matters.
The captured three-mode USPS form shows how the entry routes differ.
Choose the full-address mode for one property and the other modes only for broad postal context.
Find Fitchburg Records by ZIP
No inspected official source supplies a complete public roster of residents by ZIP. AccessDane has no verified ZIP-wide filter, and MyVote asks for a voter's name and birth date rather than a postal area. A sound ZIP code directory workflow narrows geography without claiming that a postal code identifies every household.
- Standardize the complete address with USPS. Record the preferred city and five-digit ZIP exactly as returned.
- Search AccessDane by street address. Confirm the municipality, situs address, billing address, and parcel number on the card.
- Use DCiMap to inspect the parcel and surrounding government geography. A map layer provides context but not a household roster.
- For voter data, use MyVote only for personal registration confirmation. Ask the Wisconsin Elections Commission about a lawful file request by municipality or ward rather than assuming ZIP is a statutory voter key.
- After narrowing to a road, use the Fitchburg street directory for address-level records.
Wisconsin's DSPS trades credential search does accept a five-digit or partial ZIP along with credential type, required status, and last or business name. Its results confirm credentials associated with that postal entry. They do not list all residents or prove that a license holder lives there.
Read Fitchburg Parcel ZIPs
AccessDane quick search accepts an owner, address, or parcel number. Advanced search adds municipality, street fields, PIN, Public Land Survey System fields, and plat or certified survey map controls. It does not expose a verified public ZIP filter. Search a known address, then read both the situs and billing data from the parcel card.
The situs address is the physical parcel location. The billing address is where tax mail goes and may belong to an owner, agent, or office elsewhere. A legal description defines the land through a plat, lot, block, condominium unit, certified survey map, or survey coordinates. These fields can disagree without any record being wrong.
The AccessDane advanced land-record search shows the address, municipality, survey, and plat controls available before opening a parcel.
Use those county fields to confirm jurisdiction after USPS has supplied the postal form.
Fitchburg's 2022 Boundary Change
The Town of Madison was absorbed by Fitchburg and Madison on October 31, 2022. Fitchburg's official material told incoming residents to keep their mailing addresses even though municipal services, assessment, and voting jurisdiction changed. This is a documented case where government identity changed while the delivery label did not.
For a record dated before the attachment, search the former Town of Madison context as well as present Fitchburg. For a current question, confirm the parcel municipality and voting ward through county and city sources. The ZIP code may remain useful for mail, yet it cannot date the jurisdictional transition.
Fitchburg itself has another naming layer. The area was called Greenfield before 1853, when postal confusion with Greenfield in Milwaukee County prompted the Fitchburg name. Old land and family research may need Greenfield, Town of Fitchburg, City of Fitchburg, and Town of Madison terms rather than a modern ZIP alone.
Fitchburg Growth Across ZIP Areas
Fitchburg counted 29,609 residents in the 2020 Census, and the July 2025 Census estimate was 34,615. The city spans about 35 square miles and mixes urban and suburban development with farms and natural land. Those figures explain why no one postal label captures the full local pattern.
Apartment and condominium addresses need a unit number for reliable postal results. Rural parcels may be easier to trace through a PIN or legal description. New subdivisions can appear under a plat name before that name becomes familiar in everyday use. The city's historic places, including Syene, Oak Hall, Lake View, and Stoner's Prairie, also work as research terms but do not define modern ZIP boundaries.
Population totals are area context only. They must never be used to infer the identity, language, income, or traits of a person at a specific address.
Keep Fitchburg Address Keys Separate
A reliable search preserves four different address keys. The postal address is the USPS delivery form. The situs address points to the physical parcel. The billing address tells where tax correspondence goes. The legal description identifies the land in deeds, plats, certified survey maps, or the Public Land Survey System. One person or parcel can have all four, and they need not use the same city name or ZIP.
For genealogy, save the form that appeared on the original source. Replacing an old Town of Fitchburg label with a modern postal form can hide the path back to the record. For a deed search, a PIN and legal description survive postal change better than a ZIP code. For a current mail question, the USPS result takes priority over a historic directory. For a city records request, the present parcel municipality tells which local office is likely to hold the file.
Access channels also differ by task. USPS offers its web lookup. AccessDane supplies a free web parcel search, while DCiMap adds map context and links back to parcel data. The Dane County Register of Deeds offers online recorded-document indexes from January 1975, plus counter and older-record help. A voter may use MyVote online for personal confirmation; broader voter-list questions go through the Wisconsin Elections Commission or the local clerk under their own rules and fees.
Note: A five-digit ZIP is a useful filter only when the official source actually offers that field.
Separate Fitchburg ZIP Boundaries
A ZIP code boundary organizes delivery. Fitchburg city limits determine municipal services, city records, and local voting. The two systems overlap but do not share the same edges. A Madison, Oregon, or Verona preferred postal city can still accompany a Fitchburg parcel, and a ZIP associated with Fitchburg can extend into another municipality.
- ZIP code
- A five-digit postal delivery area that may cross government lines.
- ZIP+4
- The five-digit ZIP plus four digits that narrow a delivery segment, building, or group of addresses.
- PO-box ZIP
- A ZIP assigned mainly to post-office boxes rather than ordinary street delivery.
- Unique ZIP
- A postal code assigned to one organization or site with enough mail volume.
- Carrier route
- A delivery path used by a postal carrier; it is not a neighborhood or city boundary.
No PO-box-only or unique ZIP was verified for Fitchburg in the official research. The terms still matter when reading national postal data, but they should not be assigned to a local code without USPS confirmation.
Boundary check. Confirm the postal form with USPS, the municipality with AccessDane, and the legal parcel with its PIN or recorded description.
